A program is a planned interaction for the purpose of promoting library materials, facilities, or services, as well as for offering the community an informational, entertaining, or cultural experience.
The Library’s programming depends upon staffing and budgetary realities, as well as other educational and recreational opportunities available within the community.
Core Services
The library’s core services are comprised of information-providing programs such as story times, films, activities on days when there is no school, summer reading programs, speakers and presenters for informational and entertainment programs, and book or author discussion groups. These programs are free of charge.
Other programs intended purely for entertainment may, at the discretion of the Director, charge user fees.1
Limited Enrollment
For programs with a limit on enrollment, Butler residents and patrons from within the Bridges Library System2 have first priority. This is because the majority of library funding comes from Butler taxpayers and from the Bridges Library System.
If enrollment is limited, registration will be opened to anyone at least three days prior to the program date if spaces are available. Registration can be opened earlier at the discretion of the Director.
External Vendors
Programs provided by external vendors may charge a program fee to cover materials and labor costs only. All such fees must be reviewed and approved by the Director prior to scheduling the program. Providers may offer merchandise for sale if approved by the Director before scheduling the program. Tip jars are not allowed.
The Library does not conduct programming that is commercial, political, or religious in nature.
