Unattended Children Policy

The Library sets policies and procedures that promote the well-being of children who use the library. For purposes of this policy, children are defined as those aged 10 years and under.  

  • Responsibility for the welfare of children using the library rests with the parent, legal guardian, or caregiver 
  • Staff members cannot assume responsibility for unattended children 
  • Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. (Youth, ages 11 to 18, may use the library unattended.) 
  • Preschool children must be supervised by a parent, legal guardian, or caregiver at all times. 
  • Parents and caregivers of preschool children attending a library program are required to remain in the children’s area of the library. 
  • Parents and caregivers should stay with the child when using the computer.
