Unattended Children Policy

  • Library sets policies and procedures that promote the well-being of children who use the library
  • Responsibility for the welfare of children using the library rests with the parent, legal guardian, or caregiver
  • Staff members cannot assume responsibility for unattended children
  • Children ten (10) years of age and older may use the library unattended
  • Children under the age of ten (10) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
  • Preschool children must be supervised by a parent, legal guardian, or caregiver at all times
  • Parents and caregivers of preschool children attending a library program are required to remain in the children’s area of the library
  • Parents and caregivers should stay with the child when using the computer
